Part-time Farm Hand Position

Farm Description:

  • Our 10-acre farm is located 5 minutes from Saxapahaw, 15 minutes from Carrboro, 20-25 minutes from Chapel Hill and Hillsborough, and 35 minutes from Durham. We grow a diverse range of vegetables, herbs, flowers, and fruit primarily for our CSA members, as well as for local chefs. We practice organic, intensive, no-till growing on approximately ½ acre – the majority of our beds are outside, and we also have 2 caterpillar tunnels. At Farmbelly, we also have a strong emphasis on education and host outdoor gardening and culinary focused workshops on the farm throughout the year.

Job Summary:

  • We are looking for a farm hand to work one full day per week (8 hours) – must be available on either Tuesdays or Thursdays. There is opportunity for more hours per week for the right person, especially if they are interested in assisting with our educational workshops. This position will be involved in all aspects of the farm – bed prep, planting, irrigating, weeding, pruning, trellising, harvesting, post-harvest work, etc. 1 season of experience working in a farm setting is very strongly preferred. Ideal start date is first week of February.

  • Passionate about local and organic food systems and eager to learn new skills.

  • Positive attitude, problem solver, organized, pays attention to detail, and a clear communicator.

  • Must be over 18 years old and able to safely lift 50+lbs.

  • Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting, as well as the ability to work independently and to take initiative. 

  • An interest in assisting with educational workshops and tours on the farm. 

Compensation:

  • $14/hr, with a paid lunch hour. 

  • Perks include access to vegetables, herbs, and fruit produced on the farm.

Interview Process:

  • Qualified applicants will be contacted for an initial phone/Zoom interview.

  • Final candidates will be invited to take part in a paid work trial, where you will join us for a ½ day of work at the farm.
